First Time Ever: Four New Nations Take the Field
Every UPBF World Championship adds new chapters to a thirteen-year history, and 2026 brings one of the more notable additions yet: four nations making their first appearance at the tournament. Colombia, Denmark, Kuwait, and Malta will each compete at a UPBF World Championship for the first time this year.
Four Debuts, One Tournament
It is rare for four nations to make their tournament debut in the same year, and rarer still for that group to span the geographic range these four nations represent. From Colombia in South America to Denmark in Northern Europe, Kuwait in the Middle East, and Malta in the Mediterranean, this year's debut class illustrates how widely the sport of competitive paintball has spread.
Each of these four nations arrives at Dreux 2026 with no prior UPBF World Championship appearances, meaning every match played this September represents new ground for their national program. There is no history to defend and no seeding based on past results, only a first opportunity on the world stage.
Part of a Larger Story
This debut class fits into a broader pattern for the UPBF. Since the tournament's first edition in 2013, 52 nations in total have now stood on the field at a UPBF World Championship, and these four are the newest additions to that running total. The list grows with each edition, and 2026 is no exception.
For the national federations behind Colombia, Denmark, Kuwait, and Malta, reaching this point required more than qualifying a team. It meant building a national paintball structure recognized by the UPBF, capable of selecting and fielding a delegation to compete internationally for the first time, the same institutional step every one of the 52 all-time nations has taken at some point in its own history.
Welcome to the World Stage
This September, in Dreux, France, four flags will fly at a UPBF World Championship for the first time. Whatever the results, reaching this point is itself the achievement, and the beginning of what may become a much longer story for each of these federations in the years ahead.
